PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Newburgh Central School District embarked on this Energy Performance Contract in 2016. The goal of this project was to investigate any and all opportunities for energy savings, while also sizing and identifying opportunities for renewable generation. An additional benefit includes addressing several essential infrastructure upgrades to equipment at the end of its useful life. Upgrades such as full window replacements, boiler upgrades, chiller replacements, and modernization of temperature controls district-wide are being addressed in this project.

Examples of Energy Conversation Measures:

  • Comprehensive interior & exterior LED upgrades
  • Boiler upgrades
  • Conversion of pneumatic controls to Direct Digital Control (DDC) technology
  • Solar PV across 9 buildings totaling over 1 MegaWatts (1 MW)
  • 100% windows replacements at the district administration building & public library

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

School districts are constantly faced with the challenge of maintaining administration spaces

School districts are constantly faced with the challenge of maintaining administration spaces, while also maintaining a comfortable learning environment for students. Often times, upgrades to administration spaces are often passed over for more critical needs in education spaces. In this project, ECG assisted the school district with identifying critical upgrades at the BOE administration & public library building. These upgrades included full replacements of windows and conversion of electric hot water boilers to natural-gas fired condensing technology.

Contract offers tremendous financial, infrastructure, and environmental benefits

“The energy performance contract offers tremendous financial, infrastructure, and environmental benefits for the community. Not only are we receiving close to $30 million worth of needed building upgrades with zero taxpayer impact, but we are also modernizing our facilities and reducing long-term operational costs for years to come.”
