PROJECT OVERVIEW
Energia assisted the Middle Country UFSD to reduce energy costs by implementing a wide range of energy efficiency upgrades.
The goals of this project were to improve energy efficiency, increase the reliability of the District’s mechanical systems, and the large scale deployment of Solar Photovoltaic (Solar PV) generation across the District’s roof tops.
The final project featured comprehensive interior/exterior LED Lighting upgrades, elimination of pneumatic temperature controls, boiler replacements, chiller replacements, and Solar PV.
In total, the District will install nearly 4 Megawatts (MW) of Solar PV. In order to achieve this installed capacity, Energia evaluated various strategies and the design team ultimately settled on the utilization of a ballast-mounted approach on the flat, rubber membrane-type roofs.
HIGHLIGHTS
Largest Solar Generator in the Long Island School District
When the installation is complete Energia will have assisted the Middle Country UFSD to become the largest solar generator, 4 Megawatts of Solar PV, of any school district on Long Island.
Energia and the District began our relationship through the implementation of a Phase I Energy Performance Contract that that was fully completed in November 2013. Using our expertise and understanding the District’s long term renewable energy goals, Energia helped to identify this Phase II opportunity and assist with the development, design, and successful implementation.
